Sundance: Lionsgate picks up Keanu Reeves' 'Knock Knock' for $2.5 Million

Lionsgate has closed a deal for Keanu Reeves’ “Knock Knock,” according to an individual with knowledge.

The deal was worth roughly $2.5 million. The thriller is directed by “Hostel” helmer Eli Roth, who wrote the script along with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo.

Reeves stars as a married man who lets two attractive women into his home while his family is away, which turns out to be a very bad decision. Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas also star.

It’s only the latest big buy to come out of a robust market. Sunday night, a big slug-fest over “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” saw Fox Searchlight come out the winner, while “Dope” also sparked a heated bidding war, with Open Road landing the film.

Lionsgate previously acquired the Sam Rockwell comedy “Don Verdean” ahead of its debut at Sundance. Reeves starred in “John Wick,” a surprise action hit that Lionsgate released last fall.

In his reviewVariety‘s Ben Kenigsberg said, “Eli Roth entertainingly updates a ’70s exploitation film with better acting and new technology.”
